Facial Cleansers 101 : How to Find the Best One

Hi Disciples! Since as long as I can remember I was taught that taking proper care of your skin and washing it daily is crucial in preserving a beautiful complexion, because who wants large pores and stubborn acne & blackheads. However, finding the best face wash isn’t necessarily an easy task when there are hundreds of options on the market with misleading labels and controversial ingredients. Because of this, I partnered up with Reviews.com who researched 344 facial cleansers to find you the leading and safest products.

To narrow down such a large list, they sought the advice of five skincare experts and scoured the lists of ingredients. The goal was to find cleansers that not only remove makeup, sweat, and grease, but do so without causing irritation or the removal of natural oil. The last thing you want is a red, irritated face. They began by omitting facial cleansers for certain conditions and then  removing any cleansers with harsh ingredients that strip oil. Skin actually needs oil to balance the pH and fight bacteria. A thin film on the face protects the natural oils and is known as the acid mantle. Harsh cleansers throw its pH out of balance and compromises the natural antibacterial process. Some ingredients that do this include simple alcohols and sulfates. No thanks!

They then wanted to remove cleansers with controversial ingredients like mineral oil, triclosan and formaldehyde releasers.

Finally it came time to test the cleansers’ ability to dissolve makeup by streaking hands with long-lasting foundation, waterproof mascara, baby oil and eye shadow. They then splashed with warm water and rubbed a small amount of the cleanser right on the dirt. They washed their faces in the same manner, looking for a cleanser that got rid of the makeup, but left their faces feeling fresh.

After all that research they came up with the four top cleansers on the market!

Here are the winners

– Cellex-C Betaplex Gentle Foaming Cleanser for best overall that includes sodium laureth sulfate

– Skyn ICELAND Pure Cloud Cleanser for best overall that does not include sodium laureth sulfate

– CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser for best face wash from a drugstore

– Kate Somerville Exfolikate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash for best exfoliator

There you have it lovelies. Looks like I have some cleaning out to do in my bathroom and find a new and improved cleanser!

Till next time xx,
